Hamad Port Receives Second Commercial Vessel, Paving the Way for Early Operations
On August 13, Hamad Port marked a significant milestone by welcoming its second commercial vessel, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transport. This vital development is part of a series of advancements aimed at facilitating the early operations of specific vessel types before the year concludes. The recent arrival carried an impressive load, including four ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and six rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes, a seamless addition that aligns with the port's operational timeline. Previously, Hamad Port had celebrated the arrival of its first commercial vessel on July 19, when the heavy load carrier Zhen Hua 10 docked directly from China, bringing in the inaugural shipment of cranes. The upcoming final shipment of cranes is anticipated by year-end, which will complete the deployment of eight STS cranes (standing at 100 meters and weighing over 1,200 tonnes) and 26 RTG cranes in total. The completion of all marine infrastructure and the installation of these crucial container handling equipment signify yet another achievement in Hamad Port's construction journey. "This development reflects the diligent effort of the project management team and stakeholders under the guidance of the Hamad Port Steering Committee," the statement emphasized. With a port basin measuring 4 km in length, 700 m in width, and a depth of 17 m, the new Hamad Port is poised to manage over 6 million containers annually once all three phases of its development are finalized, as noted by HE the Minister of Transport, Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti, during the inaugural vessel's arrival.
