On April 4, 2014, at approximately 5:30 PM, a fire erupted aboard the cargo vessel 'Zina' while it was docked in the western section of Amsterdam's busy port. The blaze ignited due to unknown circumstances involving several barrels containing phosphine, a hazardous substance. Emergency response measures were promptly initiated, leading to the evacuation of nine individuals from the vessel for medical checks by ambulance personnel. Meanwhile, an additional 11 crew members remained on the ship but were relocated to a secure area within the vessel to ensure their safety. Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and employed dry sand, which was transferred from a nearby ship using a crane, to combat the flames engulfing the barrels. Fortunately, the location of the ship, being fairly isolated, allowed smoke from the fire to disperse vertically, minimizing the impact on port operations.
