Almeria's Turbulent Journey: From Grounding to Resuming Voyage

The saga of the Almeria has taken a transformative turn following its unfortunate grounding in the Kadet Trench due to navigational errors on October 12, 2013. Fully loaded and with a significant draught of 11 meters, the vessel's miscalculation led it to run aground outside the shipping canal, leaving it stranded and triggering a complex salvage operation. Early reports indicated that the situation could necessitate lightering operations lasting up to two weeks, with anti-pollution vessel "Gunnar Seidenfaden" deployed to ensure environmental safety at the scene.

Assistance came swiftly in the form of two rescue tugs: the German "Bugsier 16" and the Dutch "Brent." By October 18, after a series of unsuccessful attempts to re-float the stranded bulker, the salvage operations proved successful. The ship was safely refloated only after a careful process of lightering some of its wheat cargo onto a barge and shifting the remaining cargo within the holds.

Following these intensive salvage operations, the Almeria was anchored off Skagen briefly before making its way towards Kalundborg on October 20. As of now, the vessel has resumed its voyage to Daressalam, with an estimated arrival time of November 22.
