Navigating Challenges: The Journey of Behcet-C

Behcet-C has faced a string of challenges in its operational history, recently highlighted by two significant incidents that emphasize the importance of timely maintenance and navigational safety. On September 29, 2021, while en route from Istanbul to Marghera port in Venice, the vessel experienced a blackout in the Canale dei Petroli. With a pilot onboard and assisted by two tugs, the vessel veered to starboard and struck a group of dolphins at the canal's edge. Thankfully, both anchors were dropped, and swift action from the tugs enabled them to maneuver the vessel back into the fairway. Power was restored, allowing Behcet-C to resume its journey and successfully berth at the Venice Commercial Terminals in Marghera approximately an hour later.

Earlier in its history, on September 16, 2011, Behcet-C encountered severe mechanical issues when plagued by contaminated oil that resulted in engine failures multiple times while traveling from the Gulf of Gdansk to Kiel. This caused significant delays and forced the vessel to drift off Ruegen before it could anchor off Kiel-Holtenau. Once there, the vessel was boarded by the water police for investigations before proceeding to the Bominflot Quay. Following a meticulous cleaning of its fuel system to remove contaminated oil from tanks, lines, and injectors, Behcet-C successfully unmoored from the quay on September 19, looking forward to future voyages with its classification renewed.
