Blackout Incident Averted in Venice Waterways

Sep 29, 2021 18:16

On the morning of September 29, 2021, the vessel 'Behcet C,' while navigating through the Canale dei Petroli towards Marghera port, encountered a significant blackout. The ship, which had departed from Istanbul, was under the guidance of a pilot and assisted by two tugs at the time of the incident. Momentarily losing control, the 'Behcet C' veered to its starboard side, unfortunately colliding with a group of dolphins near the canal's edge. Thanks to the quick actions of the crew and the tugs, which managed to redirect the bow away from danger, the situation was promptly stabilized. Both anchors were deployed to secure the vessel, allowing the tugs to exert full power to maneuver the 'Behcet C' back into the navigable area. The talented crew worked diligently to restore power, successfully restarting the engine. Ultimately, the 'Behcet C' safely docked at the Venice Commercial Terminals in Marghera at 7:10 a.m., approximately one hour after the blackout occurred. This incident highlights the importance of preparedness and teamwork in maritime operations. Contaminated Oil Leads to Drifting Incident for Cargo Ship 'Behcet C' in Baltic Sea

Sep 18, 2011 12:09

On September 16, 2011, the cargo vessel 'Behcet C' successfully docked at the Bominflot Quay in Kiel after a prolonged journey originating from Baltiysk. The ship experienced repeated engine failures during its transit from the Gulf of Gdansk to Kiel, resulting in a nearly week-long voyage. Throughout this time, the 'Behcet C' drifted off the coasts of Ruegen and Fehmarn, ultimately going adrift once more in the night hours between Fehmarn and the Kiel Lighthouse. Upon nearing the Kiel Canal, authorities instructed the vessel to anchor at Kiel-Holtenau. Tugs were deployed to navigate the cargo ship through the canal locks to its eventual berth at Kiel-Wik. Subsequently, the water police initiated an investigation aboard the ship. At the Bominflot bunker station, attention turned to the cleaning of the ship's fuel system. Investigations revealed that the fuel onboard was contaminated, leading to severe pollution of the fuel injectors, which necessitated the removal of tainted oil from the tanks, lines, and injectors. As a precautionary measure, the classification society must evaluate and renew the ship's classification before the 'Behcet C' can set sail again.
