The maritime saga of Bergfjord continues to unfold with alarming developments marking its operational history. On February 21, 2024, the cargo ship ran aground on a rock massif in Ksamil, reportedly due to a suspected defect in its steering system. At the time of the incident, the vessel was en route to Hereke carrying a cargo of scrap, having an estimated time of arrival set for February 25. After engaging in communication with the port authority of Saranda, the damaged ship was towed to Limion marina where it was docked without further incident. However, the vessel did sustain significant damage—most notably at its bow and the port side foreship—which raised concerns over a possible breach leading to a port-side list. This is not the first time Bergfjord has made headlines for alarming reasons. In an earlier incident on March 25, 2021, the ship was involved in a collision with a fishing boat southeast of Ravenna while traversing from Shengjin to Ravenna. The collision resulted in the sinking of the fishing vessel, although all four fishermen aboard were successfully rescued. The Bergfjord proceeded with its voyage and docked at Piomboni in Ravenna later that day, raising questions about the crew's adherence to safety protocols during navigation.

Moreover, the vessel’s reputation has faced scrutiny stemming from a tragic event on August 24, 2020. A 63-year-old crew member lost consciousness while performing cleaning duties in the engine room and subsequently died despite immediate medical assistance. This incident was reported to the Port Authority of Amaliapolis and necessitated an autopsy to determine the cause of death. A preliminary investigation was launched by authorities in the region, underlining the concerns regarding the working conditions and safety measures aboard the Bergfjord.
