Bremen-Express, a 336-meter-long container ship built in 2008, has faced a series of incidents that underscore the unpredictable nature of maritime operations. Most recently, the vessel was moored at Tanger-Med-Aanchorage on December 23, 2016, after experiencing a significant loss of containers during its journey from Norfolk to Jeddah. The incident occurred on December 19, approximately 510 nautical miles southwest of Ponta Delgada, Azores, where the ship reportedly experienced rolling for reasons that remain undetermined. Despite this challenge, the vessel, which operates within the CEC service, was able to communicate promptly with relevant authorities and continued its voyage post-incident, heading towards Rotterdam for inspections before navigating the Suez Canal en route to Asia. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the container loss, highlighting the effectiveness of the ship’s safety protocols during such unexpected situations.

Previously, the Bremen-Express was involved in another alarming event back on December 18, 2014, when a fire broke out onboard due to ignited coconut charcoal in one of its containers while docked at Global Terminal in Jersey City/Bayonne, New York. The Jersey City Fire Department swiftly mobilized land and marine units to combat the flames, successfully extinguishing the fire by 5:30 PM. While the situation could have posed serious risks, the quick actions of the emergency responders ensured that the fire was contained without further spreading to adjacent cargo. It appeared that the cause of this fire was accidental, but it raised significant concerns regarding container safety and the shipping of hazardous materials.

These incidents illustrate the complexities and challenges that the Bremen-Express and other vessels face throughout their operations.
