Acta Marine Unveils ‘Acta Orion’ at Harlingen Naming Ceremony

Oct 31, 2015 10:36

In a significant development for the offshore wind industry, Acta Marine has proudly unveiled its latest construction support vessel, the ‘Acta Orion’. The christening took place in Harlingen, The Netherlands, with Mrs. Didi te Gussinklo Ohmann, the project director of Van Oord’s Gemini project, officiating the ceremony. This innovative vessel is part of Acta Marine's strategic expansion to bolster its fleet for servicing offshore wind installations. Spanning an impressive 108 meters in length and 16 meters in beam, the DP2 offshore construction support vessel is designed with state-of-the-art features, including accommodation for up to 80 crew members, an expansive cargo deck, and a tween deck cargo hold that provides over 1250 square meters of operational space. With these capabilities, the ‘Acta Orion’ will become the standout vessel in Acta Marine's fleet. CIG Shipbuilding was commissioned to design and construct this purpose-built vessel, which has been specifically optimized for stability and seakeeping. This engineering advances the comfort levels for crew members and enhances the vessel's workability in harsh offshore conditions. Rob Boer, Managing Director of Acta Marine, expressed excitement about the new vessel, stating, “With ‘Acta Orion’, our company takes a big step forward in the offshore wind industry. Together with the ten crew transfer vessels we acquired earlier this year, we are now equipped to provide a comprehensive range of marine services to our clients in this rapidly growing sector.” The vessel will also feature an advanced active motion-compensated personnel transfer gangway, designed to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of work crews and cargo, even in challenging maritime environments.
