Working Conditions Aboard the Adam

The LNG-powered Aframax tanker, Lomonosov Prospect, has made headlines after completing its inaugural commercial journey along the Northern Sea Route (NSR). This significant maritime passage involved transporting a cargo of oil from South Korea to Northern Europe. The Lomonosov Prospect, classified as an Arc4 ice-class vessel, navigated the challenging routes of the NSR in an impressive 7.8 days, covering a total distance of 2,194 nautical miles. The vessel concluded its voyage on October 30 and is now en route to its final destination in Rotterdam. Notably, Lomonosov Prospect is the second vessel in a series of six LNG-fueled Aframax tankers operated by Russian shipping giant Sovcomflot (SCF). Just earlier this month, her sister ship, Gagarin Prospect, successfully transported its first commercial load of crude oil from Primorsk, Russia, to Rotterdam for Royal Dutch Shell, showcasing the operational capabilities and growing significance of LNG-fueled vessels in modern shipping.
