Working Conditions Aboard the Adapearl

On June 2, 2021, the cargo vessel 'Ada Pearl' made a distress call for medical assistance off the coast of Agrigento, Italy, after its Turkish captain fell gravely ill while navigating from Damietta to Huelva, with an estimated time of arrival set for June 6. The ship halted its journey and safely anchored at position 37° 15.00' N 013° 30.37' E at the Porto Empedocle Anchorage during midday hours. Unfortunately, the captain, who exhibited symptoms consistent with a stroke, was later pronounced dead. Following the incident, his remains were transported to a nearby hospital for a post-mortem examination. The coroner determined that a heart attack was the cause of his untimely death. As a result, the 'Ada Pearl' stayed anchored at the site as of June 3.
