On December 17, 2015, at approximately 7 a.m., the cargo vessel "Tuimelaar," measuring 1742 gross tonnage (EU-No.: 02324250), experienced a significant allision with a railway bridge spanning the Sea Canal Brussels-Rupel in Ruisbroek. The vessel, which was transporting sand to Willebroek, had its wheelhouse completely torn off during the incident. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the crew. Following the collision, the "Tuimelaar" was able to dock safely. Reports indicate that the ship's master failed to notice that the bridge had not opened, a situation that is unusual as the railway bridge is typically raised unless trains are scheduled to pass.
