Major Engine Room Fire Aboard Advantae Summer in Strait of Gibraltar
On the evening of July 17, 2022, the merchant tanker 'Advantae Summer,' carrying a crew of 28, encountered a serious incident while navigating the Strait of Gibraltar, just southwest of Tarifa. The vessel suffered a fire in its engine room during its journey from Algeciras to Huelva. The crew promptly acted to extinguish the blaze using onboard resources, but the tanker was left disabled as a result. At 1:15 a.m. on July 18, the SAR tug 'Luz de Mar' was dispatched to assist and successfully took the vessel in tow. By 5:15 a.m. the same morning, the 'Advantae Summer' was safely moored at the Delta anchorage off Algeciras, positioned at coordinates 36° 05.64' N 005° 19.45' W. Although the fire was extinguished and the crew remained unharmed, the extent of the damage to the vessel remains unreported.
