On July 11, 2021, the cargo vessel 'Skylight' encountered engine difficulties while navigating east of Mauritius during its journey from Singapore to Abidjan, Ivory Coast. In light of the situation, the vessel's master promptly contacted the Mauritius Maritime Authorities to request authorization to divert to Port Louis for necessary repairs. Following a swift approval, the 'Skylight' continued its journey towards the port under its own power, albeit at a reduced speed of approximately 2-4 knots.
Pirate Attack on Skylight: 10 Crew Members Kidnapped in Bight of Biafra
On December 14, 2017, the bulk carrier 'Skylight' fell victim to a pirate attack in the Bight of Biafra. The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. near the coordinates 03 47N 006 19E, approximately 38 miles south of Brass. During the assault, which lasted about an hour, the pirates managed to take 10 crew members hostage, including senior officers and the ship's master. The remaining crew members successfully navigated the vessel to safety, steering it towards Port Harcourt, where it finally docked on December 1. At the time of the incident, the Skylight was traveling from Lagos to Port Harcourt.
