African-a Vessel Reviews and Specifications

The bulk carrier African A faced serious repercussions following a port state control inspection that took place in Venice on March 12. During the inspection, authorities identified 14 deficiencies, including significant issues such as inadequate knowledge of fire drills, absence of essential high-pressure lines, malfunctioning oil leakage alarms, and non-operational rescue boats. Moreover, the vessel's steering gear had not been maintained to standards. Although the African A departed Venice on March 16, it failed to proceed to the designated repair facility in Alexandria, which had an estimated time of arrival on March 17. As a result of these lapses, the vessel has now been barred from entering any port or anchorage within the Paris MOU region. Current AIS data reveals that the African A was anchored off Marsa Brega as of April 6.
