Malaysian Authorities Detain Vessel 'Bangsakao' for Unauthorized Anchoring Near Penang
On December 24, 2019, the 'Bangsakao' faced detention by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) due to unauthorized anchoring approximately 4.5 miles north of Bahang Bay off the coast of Penang Island. Local residents raised the alarm, prompting the MMEA to take swift action. The vessel was subsequently escorted to Penang and securely berthed at Butterworth. In order to be released, the ship's operators must settle a fine amounting to USD 24,000.
