On September 18, 2019, the hopper dredger 'Akinsi' found itself grounded on the southeast coast of the Kerch Strait, close to Taman, due to an intense storm characterized by strong winds and turbulent seas. The vessel was attempting to reposition its anchorage away from the increasingly harsh shoreline conditions when it ended up aground. Fortunately, all nine crew members aboard the 'Akinsi' remained safe throughout the ordeal.
