In a disturbing maritime incident, the offshore tug 'POORNA', bearing the Indian flag and registered under IMO number 9503550, fell victim to a pirate attack on February 17, 2011, at 04:45 LT. The tugboat, with a deadweight tonnage of 1,363 and a length overall of 59 meters, was navigating approximately 6 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Nipa, Indonesia, when six armed pirates infiltrated the vessel. Utilizing a motorboat, the assailants boarded the tug and forcibly shattered the porthole glass of the aft starboard entrance to access the wheelhouse.
