Miraculous Escape: Swimmer Dodges Container Ship in Solent

Mar 06, 2022 20:08

In a harrowing incident on March 6, 2022, a man had a close call with the container ship 'Al Zubara' while navigating the Solent. The vessel was making its way from Southampton to Le Havre at around 9 a.m. when the man, who was in a dinghy, found himself directly in its path. After his attempts to start the engine failed, he made the life-saving decision to jump into the water and swim away. Miraculously, he managed to get clear of the dinghy just 15 seconds before the ship would have made contact. Fortunately, a nearby patrol boat quickly rescued the individual and provided him with necessary medical treatment for shock at a local hospital. In response to the situation, the 'Red Osprey,' a Red Funnel ferry, initiated a man overboard procedure while also assisting in the search for the swimmer. The Southampton Water Harbour Authority is currently investigating the alarming near miss. Al Zubara Faces Container Damage on Maiden Voyage in Mediterranean

Jan 19, 2016 21:26

On the night of January 16 to 17, 2016, the container ship 'Al Zubara' encountered a challenging start to her maiden voyage as she lost at least three containers and suffered damage to numerous others while navigating the Mediterranean Sea. After departing from Port Klang, the vessel was struck by severe weather, leading to the shifting of cargo during the tumultuous conditions. As a precaution, the ship diverted to Málaga to assess the situation and address the disturbed cargo. By the morning of January 18, tugs 'Vehintiocho' and 'Vehintinueve' had towed the 'Al Zubara' to container dock number 9 at the Noatum Terminal, arriving at 11:15 a.m. A specialized crane was ordered to assist with the unloading process. With 12,600 TEU on board, the situation was critical, especially at the front of the vessel, where several refrigerated containers were found to be empty. After securing the remaining cargo, repairs were made to the railings and secure lines, and a thorough inspection took place. The ship was back on its way by January 19, with an updated estimated time of arrival in Rotterdam set for January 22.
