Tugboat Collision in Suda Bay: Incident Involving Kithnos and Christos XXV
On the evening of May 18, 2018, a maritime incident occurred in Suda Bay when the MV Kithnos collided with the tugboat Christos XXV while attempting to moor. Fortunately, both vessels only sustained minor damages as a result of the incident. Following the collision, the Christos XXV remained docked in Suda Bay. The Port Authority of Chania swiftly initiated a preliminary investigation and imposed a sailing ban on both vessels until necessary repairs were conducted and certificates of seaworthiness were secured. After a brief layover, the Kithnos set sail for Eleusis port on May 20 at 5 p.m., where it remained undergoing repairs until June 5, ensuring its compliance with safety regulations.
