On February 26, 2018, at 7:10 PM, the vessel 'Aland', which was en route from Skulte to Karlshamn, encountered significant damage to its hatch covers while docked at Skulte. The incident was caused by a failure in the rod eyes of the portside (PS) and starboard (SB) crocoarms that drive the hydraulic cylinders, resulting in broken pins. Additionally, the axes of the PS and SB support rollers for the cover pontoon P24, located third from the aft, were torn from the cover structure, and various welding seams were compromised. Furthermore, the limit switch of the PS crocoarm was bent, and the rod of the PS crocoarm hydraulic cylinders suffered minor scratches due to contact with the pin. The support frame of the PS crocoarm also exhibited cracks. Temporary repairs were rapidly initiated to ensure the vessel's seaworthiness, with plans for follow-up repairs after unloading operations. The 'Aland' resumed its journey at 9:15 PM on March 1, departing Skulte bound for Karlshamn, with an estimated time of arrival set for March 3 at 10:00 AM.
