Alaskan Leader Afloat: Engine Room Fire Leads to Escort to Dutch Harbor
On Friday, the fishing vessel Alaskan Leader, a 150-foot catcher-processor registered in Kodiak, was escorted to Dutch Harbor following a significant fire outbreak that compromised its starboard main engine. According to KMXT, the fire erupted in the engine room on Thursday night, while the vessel was approximately 103 miles northwest of Unimak Pass. The damage reported in the engine room was extensive, prompting the crew to notify the Coast Guard. Coast Guard spokeswoman Sara Francis stated that several nearby fishing vessels rallied in response to assist.
