Bulk Carrier 'Johannes Wulff' Successfully Refloated After 45 Days Adrift

Jul 11, 2016 11:43

In a significant development for maritime operations, Argentinian officials have announced the successful refloating of the bulk carrier 'Johannes Wulff' on July 9. This marked the end of a grueling 45-day grounding incident in the Rio De La Plata, off the coast of Argentina. The vessel, which was en route from Rosario to Gibraltar, ran aground on May 26 at coordinates 35 02S 057 09W. Salvage teams concentrated their efforts on lightening the ship's load by transferring its cargo before the successful refloating. Fortunately, the vessel sustained no structural damage during this challenging ordeal. Following its refloating, the 'Johannes Wulff' was anchored in a designated area near Montevideo. Additionally, the Liberian cargo ship 'HR Constitution' was observed moored next to the bulk carrier on July 10.
