In an incident that occurred on July 12, 2019, at 8 a.m., the ferry 'Jaume III' collided with the stationary ferry 'Alcantara Dos' while navigating the port of Alcúdia. Fortunately, neither vessel had any passengers or cargo at the time of the allision. The 'Jaume III' was in the process of changing berths to prepare for passenger boarding when the accident transpired. Although the 'Alcantara Dos' suffered only minor damage, it did experience significant delays, departing Alcúdia several hours late on its way to Ciutadella de Menorca at midday. Following the fire, the ferry eventually reached Melilla at 4 a.m. on August 26, a substantial delay from its scheduled arrival time. It was originally slated to depart from Alméria for Melilla at 9 p.m. on August 25, but this voyage was ultimately suspended. Additionally, the planned 9 a.m. sailing from Melilla to Alméria on August 26 was also canceled as a result of the incident. In response to the disruption, 30 passengers who were intended to board the Alcántara Dos were transferred to the Fortuny, which departed for Málaga at 3 p.m. Furthermore, afternoon travelers heading to Alméria were accommodated on the Sorolla, which set sail at 7:30 p.m. The incident underscores the importance of maritime safety protocols and the quick actions taken by crew to manage emergency situations.
