On January 2, 2025, the cargo vessel Aleksey Afanasyev faced detention in Ambarli after inspectors identified nine discrepancies, two of which were deemed serious enough to warrant immediate action. The first concern was related to the vessel's structural integrity, with noted hull damage that compromised its seaworthiness, including a significant hole. Additionally, deficiencies were found in the emergency systems, particularly with the emergency fire pump and its associated piping, which exhibited insufficient pressure. Following the rectification of these issues, the Aleksey Afanasyev was released from detention on January 6 and subsequently set sail towards Rostov on Don.

On March 3, 2015, at precisely 01:15 a.m. local time, the cargo vessel 'Aleksey Afanasyev' ran aground at the 3152 km mark of the River Don. The ship was carrying a substantial load of 2,888 tons of oil cakes and was en route from Rostov to Venice, with a pilot on board at the time of the incident. Fortunately, by 05:30 a.m., the situation was remedied with the assistance of the icebreaker 'Kapitan Kharchikov' (MMSI: 273314240), which helped to refloat the vessel. Following the successful refloating operation, 'Aleksey Afanasyev' was escorted to Azov port for thorough inspections and surveys to ensure the vessel's integrity and safety.
