On March 13, 2010, the container ship 'Alexander B' (IMO: 9328649) encountered a serious incident in the Gulf of Finland at coordinates 60.01.0 N, 029.32.9 E. While navigating from St. Petersburg to Rotterdam, the vessel collided with another container ship, 'Amrum Trader' (IMO: 9150080), in an icy shipping channel during a challenging pilot disembarkation maneuver. The unfortunate accident resulted in significant damage; 'Amrum Trader' sustained a breach in its bow above the waterline, while the 'Alexander B' experienced damage at the aft section. Due to adverse weather conditions, including strong northeast winds and heavy ice, both ships were instructed by the St. Petersburg Port master to anchor at location No. 4 for thorough inspections and necessary repairs.
