On May 7, 2024, the cargo vessel 'Alexis' encountered a serious engine malfunction, leading it to run aground near the Istanbul Haydarpaşa Breakwater. The ship was on its way from Yuzhny to Port Said when the incident occurred at coordinates 41° 00.73'N 029° 00.05' E. In response to the situation, the General Directorate of Coastal Safety promptly deployed multiple response units, including 'Kiyi Emniyeti 4' (MMSI: 271010032), 'Kiyi Emniyeti 6' (MMSI: 271010034), and several tugs: 'Murtarma 18' (IMO: 9974890), 'Kutarma 6' (IMO: 9463176), and 'Kurarma 8' (IMO: 9598610). The grounding event resulted in a temporary suspension of ship traffic on the Bosphorus in both directions, causing significant disruption. On October 24, 2019, at approximately 6:05 p.m., a maritime incident occurred involving the 'Resurgence' and the containership 'SITC Bangkok.' The collision took place just 0.09 miles off the Shimizu Breakwater, resulting in significant damage to both vessels. The 'Resurgence' suffered impairments to its bulwark and a container, while the 'SITC Bangkok' incurred damage to its portside hull and bulbous bow, rendering it incapable of maneuvering under its own power. As of October 26, the 'SITC Bangkok' remained anchored and unmoving at coordinates 35° 1.91' N 138° 30.31' E, situated off the port awaiting further assistance.
