Fire Erupts on Bulk Carrier 'Altzek' Due to Engine Room Explosion
On April 13, 2025, the bulk carrier 'Altzek', laden with coal and en route from Nacala, Nampula to Poland via Las Palmas, suffered a significant incident when an explosion in the engine room triggered a fire. Fortunately, the vessel's dedicated crew quickly managed to extinguish the flames before the situation escalated. Responding promptly, four tugs equipped with fire-fighting resources from CFM-Logistic and Corredor LogĂstico Norte were dispatched to the location, but their assistance was no longer needed. Despite the quick action, four crew members experienced minor injuries; however, they were deemed out of danger and received treatment at a clinic in Nacala after being safely transported back to the port. In the aftermath of the incident, naval engineers have been summoned to conduct a thorough technical assessment of the 'Altzek' to ascertain its seaworthiness for continuing its journey.
