Fire Erupts in Container Cargo Aboard 'Alula' at Hamburg Port

In an incident that unfolded in the early hours of August 28, 2015, a fire broke out in a 40-foot container filled with pressed cardboard aboard the vessel 'Alula' at the Eurogate Terminal in Hamburg's Waltershof Port. The alarm was raised at approximately 3:30 a.m., prompting a swift response from local firefighting units. A team of 36 firefighters promptly arrived on the scene and began the challenging task of accessing the burning container. After unloading an additional 30 containers to reach the affected area, they successfully extinguished the smoldering blaze by 7 a.m. As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown. The 'Alula' had docked at the terminal on August 27, after its journey from Rotterdam.

The United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has proudly announced the handover of its fourth 13,500 TEU container vessel, dubbed 'Al Ula', at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) facility located in Geoje, South Korea. Stretching 366 meters in length, the Al Ula operates with a Doosan MAN B&W main engine, achieving an impressive service speed of approximately 25 knots. This latest addition boasts the capacity to carry up to 800 40-foot reefer containers on deck, and is equipped with three holds that are specifically designed for the transport of hazardous materials. With the inclusion of this new A13-class vessel, UASC's fleet expands to a total of 49 container ships, solidifying the dominance of the A13 class as the largest segment within the company's impressive maritime operations.
