Alva Ship Details and Seafarer Feedback

On August 18, the vessel Alva was successfully salvaged after being stranded just south of Helsingborg, close to Ålabodarna. Prior to the recovery, the ship underwent a lightering process to ensure its successful extraction. Divers from the Coast Guard performed a comprehensive inspection of the vessel post-salvage. Currently, the Alva is safely anchored at Råå roads. In a troubling incident on August 17, 2011, at around 4 a.m., the freighter 'Alva' ran aground while en route from Szczecin to Gothenburg, transporting a cargo of sodium silicate. The vessel found itself stranded north of Landskrona after the 63-year-old Latvian captain failed to alter its course while navigating past the island of Hven. The Swedish Coast Guard swiftly responded with the vessel 'KBV 003', boarding the freighter and detecting the scent of alcohol on the bridge. A breathalyzer test later confirmed the captain had been drinking. Following the preliminary investigation, he was taken ashore for a blood sample to ascertain his alcohol level. In the meantime, three divers were deployed to evaluate the damage sustained by the ship. Pending approval from Swedish authorities, it will be up to the shipping company and its insurance provider to devise a salvage strategy. Notably, the 'Alva' is the third vessel in the Øre Sound to encounter grounding incidents this year.
