In upcoming developments for maritime travel, the ferryboat Baltijsk is set to return to the Ust-Luga-Baltijsk line in September 2016. This announcement was made by Andrei Moshkov, Deputy Director General of Rosmorport’s North-West Basin Branch, during the Baltic Transport Forum held in Kaliningrad. According to Moshkov, the Baltijsk will resume operations while its engine is currently undergoing repairs. Historically, the Ust-Luga-Baltijsk route was serviced by three ferryboats — Baltijsk and Peterburg operated by Trans–Exim Ltd., alongside Ambal, operated by Oboronlogistika LLC. However, the Peterburg was withdrawn from service as of January 28, 2016, following the owner's assessment that its deployment was economically unviable. As for the Ambal, it is scheduled for a significant modernization, ensuring it meets contemporary standards and operational requirements. In a significant development, the vessel AMBAL, identified by IMO number 8807416, has officially transitioned its national affiliation, now flying the Russian flag. The ship's new port of registry is Kaliningrad, marking a fresh chapter in its operational journey.
