The incident began at 10:11 a.m. when watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Juneau command center received an urgent notification from the Alaska State Troopers regarding an activation of an inReach device. This alert indicated that the woman was suffering from severe symptoms consistent with anaphylactic shock while aboard the vessel. Responding swiftly, the Coast Guard diverted an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Sitka, which had been engaged in a training exercise. The helicopter arrived at the scene at 11:30 a.m., successfully hoisting the patient and subsequently transporting her to emergency medical services waiting in Juneau for further assistance.

On May 16, 2019, a small fire erupted on deck 1 of the cruise ship American Constellation, causing minor injuries to two individuals.
