American Integrity Marks Winter Layup Season Arrival in Twin Ports
The freighter American Integrity recently made headlines as the first vessel of the winter season to enter layup at the Port of Duluth-Superior. The impressive 1,000-foot lake freighter arrived on Wednesday, heavily coated in ice, signaling the onset of the frigid season. This marks a significant milestone as American Integrity takes its place among a select group of approximately six vessels that are set to dock in the Twin Ports for the winter months. Currently berthed on the east side of the Clure Public Marine Terminal, this vessel will remain here until the Soo Locks reopen around March 25, allowing passage to the lower Great Lakes. According to Adele Yorde, spokeswoman for the Duluth Seaway Port Authority, the remaining ships are expected to arrive next week, with plans for their wintering at Fraser Shipyards in Superior as well as the docks of Enbridge and Midwest Energy. These winter preparations are crucial for maintaining operations and safety during the harsh winter conditions in the region.
