On the night of January 29, 2013, a serious incident unfolded as the Danish police apprehended the captain of the cargo vessel 'Amethyst' for operating the ship while under the influence of alcohol. Authorities from the Danish Sea Operating Command had raised suspicions regarding the captain’s sobriety following a radio check during the vessel’s northbound passage through the Øre Sound, en route from Flushing to Ghent. A swift response by the police led to the dispatch of a boarding team to the ship, where they discovered the 59-year-old captain indeed intoxicated.
