The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ISC) has reported two alarming cases of armed robbery involving vessels in Asia, classified as one CAT 21 incident and one CAT 32 incident. These events took place onboard bulk carriers navigating through the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Straits, particularly off Pulau Cula, on January 8 and 9, 2025. In a notable incident, the bulk carrier 'Anabela' was approached by a group of four armed assailants, who were reportedly armed with firearms. This occurrence transpired at approximately 4 a.m. on January 8, just six nautical miles to the west of Pulau Cula, with coordinates recorded at 1°3.95' N, 103°36.83' E. Fortunately, no possessions were reported stolen during this encounter, indicating perhaps a focus on intimidation rather than theft.
