In a dramatic rescue operation on May 20, 2025, the container ship 'Cosco Development' (IMO: 9472139) came to the aid of 30 fishermen whose Indonesian-flagged fishing vessel, 'Pacific Memory II', had capsized. The incident occurred approximately 27 kilometers northeast of Pedra Branca, within Singapore's maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) region, at around 7:20 a.m. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Singapore received the distress call and promptly issued navigational alerts to vessels in the vicinity for assistance. Additionally, local authorities notified Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency and Malaysia's MRCC. Responding swiftly, Singapore directed the bulk carrier 'Andros Spirit', which was on its way from Constanta to Machong, to the scene of the incident. The 'Andros Spirit' arrived quickly and successfully rescued all 30 fishermen, who were then safely disembarked at Batam.
