Ship 'Felix' Successfully Refloated After Grounding Near Baagø

Jul 22, 2019 12:58

Efforts to refloat the cargo vessel 'Felix' from its grounding site south of Baagø, where it became stuck in the early hours of July 20, have faced challenges. After several unsuccessful attempts to pull the ship free, it was determined that lightering part of its cargo was necessary to facilitate its salvage. The tug 'Obelix' made multiple tries over the past 24 hours to assist in freeing the vessel. On the evening of July 20, additional support arrived when the tugboats 'Jesper Saj', 'Susanne Saj', and 'Marie Miljoe' joined forces with 'Obelix' at the site. The situation took a positive turn when the cargo vessel 'Alba Rousing' (IMO: 8506024), which departed from Aarhus at 11:50 a.m. on July 21, arrived alongside the grounded 'Felix' to offload its cargo with the help of dredger 'Jesper Saj' (MMSI: 219017321). Later, on July 23, 'DBB Idefix' (MMSI: 219025527) joined the salvage efforts. By 7:45 p.m. the same day, 'Felix' was finally refloated and successfully berthed at the North Quay in Kolding at 1:55 a.m. on July 24. Following the salvage operation, 'Felix' underwent a comprehensive diving survey in the port. The vessel departed from Kolding on July 26 at 11:10 a.m., setting a course for Immingham, with an estimated arrival time of July 29 at 10 p.m. During its journey, 'Felix' temporarily moored off Skagen at position 57° 41.83' N 010° 35.80' E on July 27 at 6:55 p.m. For more details, you can view a Danish report with accompanying photographs.

Maritime Incident: Cargo Ship 'Felix' Grounds Near Assens

Jul 21, 2019 11:26

On July 20, 2019, at 5 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Felix' encountered difficulties while navigating through Bogø Flak, situated close to Assens. The ship, which was on a route from Pärnu to Kolding carrying a load of pellets, beached itself south of Baagø island in Lillebælt at coordinates 55° 16.82' N 009° 49.98' E. Fortunately, preliminary investigations revealed no visible damage to the vessel and indicated an absence of pollution in the surrounding waters. In light of this, the Danish Armed Forces gave the green light for a salvage operation. The tugboat 'Obelix' (IMO: 9691448), operated by Dansk Bjergning og Bugsering, was tasked with the recovery efforts. Unfortunately, three attempts to refloat the 'Felix' by the 'Obelix' later that evening were unsuccessful. Should the situation remain unchanged at high tide, it may become necessary to lighten the ship's cargo to accommodate a draught of 6.5 meters.
