On March 26, 2019, the Australian Maritime Safety Agency (AMSA) detained the freighter 'Anna-Elisabeth' at Port Kembla, specifically at berth 102, following serious complaints lodged by its crew regarding their onboard working conditions. A total of 17 crew members from Sri Lanka and the Philippines reported a dire lack of food supplies, coupled with restrictions on shore leave and unsafe working conditions. Operated by Johann M. K. Blumenthal and Co. from Hamburg, the 'Anna-Elisabeth' remained in custody while investigations were conducted. Inspectors found the food provisions onboard to be inadequate, deeming them substandard for the crew’s needs during the next 14 days.
