Oldendorff Carriers Transforms Bulk Carrier to Enhanced Transloader

Mar 23, 2017 09:49

In an innovative move, Oldendorff Carriers, a notable German shipping company, is converting its bulk carrier, Tete Oldendorff, into a transloader. The transformation is taking place at Chengxi Shipyard, a division of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), located in Jiangyin, China. The conversion project commenced in February 2017 and is projected to be finalized by the summer of the same year. Upon completion, the 2006-built vessel will be rebranded as Anna Oldendorff. Anna Oldendorff is set to replace the existing E. Oldendorff, joining forces with Johanna Oldendorff, along with two specially designed transloaders, Alfred Oldendorff and Antonie Oldendorff. Together, these vessels will efficiently handle lightering and unloading operations for Capesize bulk carriers in the Arabian Gulf. The conversion entails extensive modifications including the installation of new generators, three Liebherr MPG cranes mounted on the side of the vessel, hoppers, conveyor belts, and unloading booms. Additionally, the superstructure will be enlarged to accommodate an extra sixteen crew members. This substantial conversion will contribute approximately 2,500 tons of new steel to the ship, according to Oldendorff Carriers. In related developments, Oldendorff Carriers has also inked a contract with Chengxi Shipyard for equipping the 75,053 dwt bulk carrier, Trina Oldendorff, with side-mounted cranes.
