APL Cairo Resumes Voyage After Fire Incident in Binh Thuan Waters
The APL Cairo is once again navigating the seas following a recent fire incident that broke out in containers filled with pressed wood at its stern while approaching Binh Thuan. To mitigate any potential spread of the flames, the captain skillfully diverted the vessel to buoy No.0 off the Vung Tau coast, approximately 50 kilometers away. Ship crews promptly initiated water spraying operations to cool the affected area and contain the fire. Firefighters responded with specialized equipment, cutting open the containers to access the fire and employing water cannons to extinguish the blaze effectively. Once the fire was fully under control, the damaged containers were removed at Cai Mep-Thi Vai port. Out of the 12 containers that suffered deformation, the cargo inside was also significantly affected. In total, about 38 containers sustained damage, sparking an ongoing investigation into the fire's origin. The APL Cairo had set sail from Cai Mep on March 16 at 09:30 a.m. UTC and was en route to Hong Kong, with an estimated time of arrival on March 19.
