NOL Group Unveils Its Largest Vessel, APL Chongqing, in Ulsan
On December 1, 2011, NOL Group celebrated a significant milestone in maritime history with the christening of its largest vessel to date, the 350-meter APL Chongqing, at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea. The Singapore-based shipping and logistics powerhouse is also set to introduce its sister ship, the APL Gwangyang. Both vessels boast a capacity of 10,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), making them the largest within NOL’s container shipping line, APL. This important addition is part of a broader strategy, as APL plans to add 32 new vessels by 2014, aimed at enhancing fuel efficiency, economies of scale, and competitive edge in an industry increasingly dominated by larger ships. "Today marks a milestone," proclaimed Group CEO Ng Yat Chung during the ceremony, emphasizing the company's commitment to upsizing and upgrading their fleet, which will ultimately represent the strongest in NOL's 165-year history.
