On July 7, 2017, at approximately 06:30 a.m., the container ship APL Jeddah experienced a power failure while departing Kaohsiung Port, destined for Osaka with a pilot on board. This unfortunate incident resulted in the vessel colliding with pier No. 58, inflicting significant damage to both the quay wall and the ship's bulbous bow. Following the allision, the vessel was promptly returned to its berth for thorough investigations and damage assessments. To assess the situation more closely, divers were deployed to examine the affected bow area. Fortunately, the nearby petrochemical terminal remained unaffected, with its gas pipeline sustaining no damage.
