On March 13, 2016, a critical medevac operation unfolded off Mouille Point involving the car carrier 'Otello.' The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Table Bay duty team promptly responded to the situation, deploying their rescue vessel, 'Spirit of Vodacom,' shortly before noon. Accompanied by a Western Cape emergency medical services (EMS) paramedic, the rescue crew reached the 'Otello' to assist a ship's engineer who was experiencing a stroke. Upon reaching the scene, the EMS paramedic conducted a thorough assessment of the engineer, determining that he was indeed suffering from a mild stroke. Following this evaluation, the patient was carefully transferred onto the rescue craft. The 'Spirit of Vodacom' then transported him back to the NSRI Table Bay base, where he was met by an EMS ambulance and subsequently taken to a hospital in stable condition for further treatment.
