Hapag-Lloyd Launches Dakar Express Service to Enhance West Africa Connectivity
In a significant move to improve its offerings in West Africa, Hapag-Lloyd has announced the launch of the Dakar Express (DEX) service, set to commence in week 47. This new service will facilitate weekly sailings between North Europe and the ports of Senegal and Mauritania, establishing a crucial link for trade in the region. The DEX will also enhance connections to Hapag-Lloyd’s Global Mainline Network through the port of Tangier. As part of this transition, Hapag-Lloyd has decided to remove Dakar from its existing West Africa Express (WAX) service, a strategic adjustment aimed at easing operational pressures and improving schedule reliability. The DEX service will be operated by four dedicated vessels, each with a capacity of 1,700 TEU, exclusively managed by Hapag-Lloyd. The service will feature the following port rotation: Antwerp – Dunkerque – Lisbon – Tangier – Dakar – Nouakchott – Tangier – Leixões – Antwerp. This initiative reflects Hapag-Lloyd's commitment to enhancing its service portfolio and meeting the growing demands of the West African market.
Hapag-Lloyd Secures Charter Extension for Continued Operations in Continental and West Africa
Hapag-Lloyd has successfully negotiated a charter extension, allowing their vessels to maintain operations in both Continental and West African regions for an additional duration of 5 to 7 months. Under the new agreement, the daily trading rate is set at $10,250. This move underscores Hapag-Lloyd's commitment to enhancing their maritime services and operational footprint in these crucial markets, ensuring reliable shipping solutions for their clients.
Evergreen Streamlines Greece Turkey Service with New Route Configuration
Evergreen Line is set to revamp its Greece Turkey Service (GTS), significantly altering its route structure to enhance operational efficiency. Previously, the service covered Haydarpasa, Gebze, and Gemlik from Piraeus; however, the updated GTS will now focus exclusively on Piraeus, Istanbul, Izmir, Thessaloniki, and return to Piraeus. Notably, the stop in Taranto has been eliminated in this new iteration of the service. This revised service is scheduled to launch on October 8, 2023, operating with a single vessel, the 2,824-TEU Ital Oriente, instead of the previous two vessels. This strategic shift highlights Evergreen's commitment to optimizing its shipping operations in the region.
