Arctic Rock Disabled Near Borkum, Rescued by Tugs
On October 23, 2018, at 3:40 p.m., the multipurpose vessel 'Arctic Rock' set sail from Emden, heading towards Eemshaven with an expected arrival on October 26. However, on October 24, the ship encountered difficulties after it was anchored to ride out a storm in the North Sea, just off the coast between Delfzijl and Eemshaven. In the early morning hours of that day, the 'Arctic Rock' experienced a loss of power and became adrift northwest of Borkum Island starting at 6:30 a.m. In response to the emergency, tugs 'Gruno V' and 'Gruno 4' were deployed to assist in towing the disabled vessel. By midday, all three ships were situated at coordinates 53° 28.85' N 006° 48.83' E. The rescue operation concluded successfully, with the 'Arctic Rock' safely berthed in Eemshaven by 1:50 p.m.
