On May 23, 2012, the United States Coast Guard successfully conducted a medical evacuation for a 31-year-old male Burmese national aboard the vessel "Annabell". The incident unfolded approximately nine miles off the coast in the Tampa Fairway Anchorage. At 8:10 a.m., the captain of the "Annabell" reached out to the watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, reporting that one of his crew members was experiencing severe medical issues, having been unconscious and awakening intermittently since May 22. The affected individual exhibited slurred speech and was unable to consume food or fluids. In response, Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg deployed a 45-foot Response Boat Medium along with a local emergency medical technician (EMT) at approximately 10 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene at 10:30 a.m., the Coast Guard crew and EMT quickly transferred the patient onto their vessel, a process taking about three minutes. They then proceeded to the Fort De Soto pier, where local emergency medical personnel were waiting to escort the patient to Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg for further medical care.
