The Aria-Vibe: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On November 13, 2018, at 9:45 PM, a fire broke out in the cargo hold of the 'Aria Vibe' while it was docked at the Kishon terminal in Haifa, where it was loaded with bulk steel scrap. Prompt action was taken as a nearby tugboat joined the firefighting efforts. Fire crews and the vessel's crew quickly engaged CO2 flooding to manage the blaze. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or environmental pollution resulting from the fire. The extent of damage to the ship remained undetermined at the time. A follow-up assessment was conducted on November 18, and the 'Aria Vibe' successfully departed from the port on November 22.

On December 8, Polish crew members of the vessel 'Szafir' were confirmed safe and en route back to their homeland. This successful operation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Nigerian authorities alongside EuroAfrica, the company responsible for the ship. The crew, which included the captain and four other members, were held captive before their prompt release, highlighting the ongoing challenges of maritime security in the region.

In a reassuring update from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the five crew members from the MV Szafir, a Cyprus-flagged cargo ship, have communicated with their families, confirming that they are "safe and sound." This update arrives after the sailors were kidnapped on November 27, 2015, off the coast of Nigeria when armed assailants boarded the vessel about seven nautical miles east of Brass around 01:49 local time. The MFA emphasized the importance of protecting the sailors' lives by withholding further details. Fortunately, the remaining 11 crew members were unharmed and continue to remain on board the Szafir, which was escorted to safety at Onne Port by the Nigerian Navy. In an effort to ensure the sailors' safety, the MFA and the Polish Embassy in Abuja are actively collaborating with Nigerian authorities, the ship owner, and the families of the abducted crew. An emergency task force has also been established at the MFA headquarters to streamline response efforts. The MV Szafir, owned by Voltaire Shipping Company and operated by Euroafrica Services Nigeria Limited, was en route from Antwerp to Onne Port when the attack occurred. The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has reported ongoing search and rescue operations for the kidnapped crew members, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
