Ascension Ferry Temporarily Out of Service After Vehicle Incident

On May 8, 2025, the 'Ascension' ferry, which provides vital connections between Plaquemine and New Orleans, was forced to halt operations due to damage caused by a vehicle on board. The incident occurred in the morning, disrupting the ferry's usual schedule of 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. services. As a result, the Ascension remained unavailable for the rest of the day, leaving commuters in need of alternative travel arrangements. Currently, there is no timeline for when the ferry will return to service. Additionally, the secondary ferry that services Cameron Parish is also out of operation indefinitely.
