In a bewildering turn of events at Siam Seaport, the m/v Unison Vigor was docked at a Kerry Logistics-managed pier, successfully unloading a significant cargo of rolled steel. However, the situation took a drastic turn when the m/v Ocean Flavor, while attempting to berth, collided with the Unison Vigor, leading to its untimely sinking. Reports indicate that approximately 2000 to 8000 metric tons of steel, intended for automobile manufacturing, were submerged along with the vessel. Despite my efforts to gather more information from Kerry Logistics, I faced uncooperativeness, even with my credentials as a journalist. JC Marine Services, located nearby and known for their expertise in port construction, mentioned they might undertake the salvage operation and are currently conducting assessments. Access to the wrecked vessel is challenging due to the lengthy and heavily secured pier, complicating any attempt to reach the site. In a concerning incident, a police officer stationed at the location suffered serious injuries from a snapped rope. The only feasible approach to view the sunken vessel seems to be through hiring a private boat to navigate from the seaside. Current assessments suggest that the Unison Vigor is entirely submerged, although it is uncertain if any parts of its superstructure remain above water.
