Inaugurated in 1996 under a major initiative to establish a commercial seaport in Ust-Luga, the facility has since integrated advanced technologies designed to facilitate the shipment of high-quality coal sourced from Kuzbass and other notable coal-producing regions to clients across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. The terminal underwent a significant upgrade in 2006 with the launch of its automated transshipment facility, which was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a notable maritime transaction, the vessel has been sold alongside the Liberty Dawn for a combined total of $25.6 million to buyers based in Greece. This sale marks a significant movement in the shipping industry, reflecting ongoing interests from Greek maritime investors.
