Recent reports from the ReCAAP ISC indicate a troubling trend of armed robbery incidents affecting vessels in Asia. Between April 22 and April 25, 2025, two such incidents were documented, including one classified as CAT 21 and another as CAT 4. Both incidents transpired aboard bulk carriers navigating the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) near Pulau Cula in the Singapore Strait. Fortunately, the crews aboard were unharmed. On the morning of April 25 at approximately 03:00 a.m., the bulk carrier 'ASL Trinity' was boarded by unidentified assailants while positioned at coordinates 1° 2.3' N 103° 39.1' E, roughly 3.5 nautical miles away from Pulau Cula. The thieves made off with generator spare parts, raising concerns about maritime security in the region.
